Wind turbines are built of wood to generate sustainable electricity – Air quality is important

It has been a year since Modvion’s first commercial wooden wind tower was handed over to Varberg Energi. Wind turbines have been generating electricity for the past 12 months. [sic]

Wind turbine “Variable Wind” is equipped with a refurbished Vestas V90-2.0 MW and provides stable, effective power production during its founding year.

The initial stage of electricity production is very successful,” said Björn Sjöström, CEO of Varberg Energi. The availability of the turbine is very good and we have no operational problems. This wind power plant is in line with our vision of becoming a Swedish technology leader. ”

Building wind turbine towers from wood can significantly reduce carbon emissions. Traditional turbine towers are one of the largest carbon contributors in wind energy production, but wooden towers act as carbohydrates to store more CO₂ than they emit during manufacturing, transportation and installation.

First year of operation confirms that wooden wind towers are a sustainable and scalable solution for high wind turbinesModivio CEO Otto Lundman said. ”Our modular design simplifies transportation and enables installation on hard-to-reach sites.transparent

With their successful year, Modvion is now expanding. The company has completed the tower design of a 6-MW wind turbine, the largest onshore and is producing adapted technologies for the series to support the industry’s shift to higher, more efficient turbines.
