Is your audience broken?

I really like audience segments because they add useful detail to advertising reports. Even with algorithmic targeting, you can segment your results by:

  • engaged audience
  • Existing customers
  • new audience

But starting around January 6, things went seriously wrong.

what happened?

I find that the percentage spent on “unknowns” is very high and the percentage spent on engaged audiences and existing customers is very small.

The presence of unknowns usually means there’s something wrong with your audience. Meta is defined like this:

Your ads are being served to some people, but your existing customer base is still empty.

But that’s not what happened here. I don’t know how common this problem is, but others have had it too.

Is it fixed?

Fortunately, it seemed to have finally been fixed during the day on January 14th (although it may not have been fixed for everyone). Unfortunately, Meta hasn’t fixed the corrupted data from the previous week or so, but it would be nice to have that data restored.

Hopefully it gets fixed permanently as audiences are very useful. Do you have this problem too?
