Adobe’s new AI is very good, you may throw away other tools

New Firefly updates can promote realism, control and collaboration across creative cloud applications
Adobe just fell off Major AI upgrades:
- Firefly Image 4 and Model 4 Ultra now powered text to image generation
- A new collaboration tool, Firefly Boards Enter Beta
- Third-party AI integration joins Adobe’s creative suite
- Creative cloud apps like Photoshop and Illustrator get more AI magic
This is the biggest bold move Adobe has not yet consolidated Firefly’s role in the Generative AI competition and keeps pace with OpenAI and Google. This push adds speed, control and high-resolution output to image generation, as well as new tools for creative collaboration.

What is new:
Firefly Image 4 Now is Adobe’s fastest and most controllable model. It allows creators to generate 2K resolution images in customizable styles, angles and formats.
For more complex, ultra-detailed images, the Model 4 Ultra promises better realism and structural renderings, and comes to mind complex scenes or realistic elements.
Creative Free Growth:
Now, the new Firefly web app includes third-party models that access OpenAI’s GPT Image Model, Google’s Imagen 3 and VEO 2. More integrations are coming soon, including Luma, Pika and Runway.
However, Adobe is clear: only its own model is marked “Business security.” Why? They are trained on licensed and public content, unlike some competitors facing copyright scrutiny.
A new way to collaborate:
Using Firefly boards, Adobe transforms mood boards into shared generative AI experiences, similar to Figma’s Figjam but powered by AI. Mobile apps are on the way, too.
Photoshop and Illustrator are not missing:
- Photoshop adds smarter color tools and editing suggestions
- Illustrator brings the ability to generate shape fills and text to patterns
Adobe doesn’t just add AI. It is building a complete AI ecosystem across devices and platforms and hopes to be the safest and most suitable option for creators.
