Should you limit your ad targeting by age?

If you use Advantage+ Audience, you can set a minimum age, but not over 25 years old.

You can also provide age range recommendations for minimum and maximum values.

Advantages + Audience Age Range Suggestions

But due to their suggestions, Meta can and will show your ads to people outside your suggestions. Otherwise, if you turn off Advantage+ Offing, you can set the minimum and maximum age.

But should it be? it depends…

Is this a problem?

If you optimize for purchase, you don’t need it. If contacting someone outside of your suggested age range does not result in a purchase, then algorithm learning, budget will cost minimally there.

The problem might be when optimizing anything else (link clicks, login page view, Thruplay view or even leads). If the Meta can find the action you want outside that range, they will do it.

example

I’m having this exact problem. I’m putting ads in lead magnets and Meta spends a lot of budget on people over 65. Why? Because these clues are very cheap, the algorithm is doing what it was originally intended.

While it’s okay for me to spend some money on people of that age, I certainly don’t want to spend that much. I also see these as clues to low quality. So I set the audience’s recommendations 25 to 54.

result? Meta completely ignored this suggestion and continued to target people over 65 at a higher speed. I have no choice but to transfer the advantage + audience to control this.

How to monitor

But don’t think it’s because I’m having this problem. I recently called a customer who used Advantage+ audience and they didn’t have the same problem. In all cases, it does not happen.

You can set a strict age range, but make sure it is necessary. You can confirm this by using the fault by age to see if there is any problem.

If Meta spends a lot of money on age groups where you cannot serve or provide low-quality results, you may need to limit your age range.
