As social media platforms are eager to integrate AI chat robots into their services, new studies have shown that these automated agents may destroy their very humane connection. A comprehensive study of Notre Dames in Paris shows that although robots have increased the overall user participation of platforms such as Reddit, they also reduce the depth and quality of human interaction with human interaction.

This study was published in MIS quarterly, analyzing nearly 70 million posts about the Reddit community between 2005 and 2019 to track how the automatic robot account affects the conversation model of human users. These findings appear at critical moments, because major platforms like Meta will actively push AI -driven chat robots to social media space.

“Although humans interact with various other people, their interaction involves more single articles and fewer discussions,” explained John Lalor, an analysis and operation assistant professor at the Mendoza Business School of Notre Dame. “If a user is released on Reddit, now the robot will reply or insert a dialogue instead of two human users to discuss meaningful back and forth.”

The study distinguishes two types of robots: “reflection” robots that generate and share content, as well as “supervision” robots with medium discussion. Reflection robots help users discover more content and establish contact with more people, but these connections are often superficial. At the same time, monitoring robots reduced human hosts’ role in shaping community norms.

Considering that Meta introduced AI Studio recently, the timing of these discovery is particularly important. The tool allows Facebook and Instagram users to create their own AI driving chat robots. Meta generates AI product vice president in December that the Financial Times has existed in the company’s AIS “in the same way as an account”, and is equipped with the ability of “BIOS and Personal Information”, and the ability to generate and share content.

This promoting AI integration has aroused concerns about the quality of information and user experience. Although Meta has deleted its internal AI robots, the robot created by users is still active on the platform. The current image is not limited to the attributes of Meta-Snapchat and Tiktok have started similar tools.

Some robots perform relatively simple tasks. For example, WikitextBot on Reddit will automatically respond to a post that provides page summary. However, with the development of generating AI technology, these automated interactions have become more and more complicated.

The research team includes Nicholas Berente from Notre Dame and HANI Safadi from the University of Georgia. It is found that the increase in robotic activities fundamentally changed the social network structure of the online community. Although users have established more connections, the depth of these connections has suffered losses.

Lalor pointed out: “For the company, it is important to understand how this increased robot activity affects the way human interaction between human beings on these platforms.” He suggested that the platform needs to carefully consider “whether the robot should be regarded as the” user ‘”user’ And how to show any robot account to human users.

As social media companies continue to invest in AI technology, the research results show that it is necessary to balance the opportunity to automatically participate in meaningful human interaction. Studies have shown that although robots may promote surface -level indicators, they may accidentally erode a deeper connection between social media social networking.
